100,000 marine mammals die from plastic waste. This, of course, does not go without consequences for marine life. Animals such as seals, dolphins, and birds mistake plastic debris for food and eat it. The animals starve to death despite full stomachs or die from intestinal obstruction. According to current estimates, including those by the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU), around 100,000 marine mammals and one million seabirds fall victim to this madness every year.
